  Obituary   Tommy Martin, 68, of Dimmitt, TX passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 in Lubbock, TX. Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, December 31, 2018 at 1:30PM at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Eliezer Garrido and Scott Moran officiating. Private burial will follow with arrangements be handled with Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt. Tommy was born on April 17, 1950 in Muleshoe, TX to Walter John “W.J.” Martin and Nell (Connell) Martin. Tommy attended school in Springlake, Clarendon and Hereford then his parents bought a farm and settled in the Flagg community where he attended schools in Dimmitt. During his time at Dimmitt ISD he served as FFA President, Class President and graduated from high school in 1968. He then attended college at Texas Tech University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1972. While at Tech, he met Linda Hamilton and they married on May 20, 1972. Three months later he and Linda moved to Stillwater, OK where he attended graduate school at Oklahoma State University from which he received a Master’s Degree in Animal Science in 1973. Tommy and Linda then moved back to the Flagg area and began farming. During his successful farming career, he served on the Board of Directors for Dimmitt Agri, Chairman of the Management Committee for AgriFarm Industries and was a member of the Lazbuddie ISD school Board, while also being a 6-time recipient of the National Corn Growers Association for corn yield. Tommy eventually retired from farming but currently owns the land on the homestead place. Those left behind to cherish his memories are his wife, Linda Martin of Dimmitt, TX, 2 sons, Andy Martin and wife Katie of Lubbock, TX and Rob Martin and wife Christine of Levelland, TX, 2 brothers, Scott Martin of Dimmitt, TX and Bobby Martin and wife Kay of Dubuque, IA, 1 sister, Luan Martin and husband Dick of Spring Branch, TX along with 4 grandchildren, Ellie, Luke, Caroline and Clara, and 7 nieces and nephews. Tommy is preceded in death by his parents, W.J. and Nell Martin The family has requested memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church, 110 SW 3rd, Dimmitt, TX 79027 or to a favorite charity.
