      JOE WOOD, 70, of Duncan, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2003, at home.
      He was born May 8, 1932, in Cottle County, Texas, to Arthur William and Ruby Viola (Harris) Wood. He married Marita McKnight on December 16, 1952, in Hale Center, Texas.
      Joe had grown up in New Mexico, Arizona and Olton, Texas, before coming to Hale Center, and meeting Marita at Cotton Center High School. He graduated from high school in 1950 and attended Abilene Christian College and the University of Houston before joining the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He served in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and northern Japan.
      After his service, Joe farmed with his family for a short time, then began a successful career as a Chamber of Commerce executive for 35 years, serving in Texas, Oklahoma, Illinois, Kentucky and Kansas. He was a Chamber executive in Duncan for 13 years. He later was employed by Kay's Real Estate as a real estate agent. He was awarded the Distinguished Citizen of Duncan Award in 1999, and served as president of the Oklahoma Board of Realtors.
      Joe was a member of the Chisholm Trail Church of Christ. He served as an elder at two congregations, a Bible school teacher and speaker for many years. He was very supportive of overseas missions and World Bible School.
      Funeral services for Joe Wood will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Augist 5, at the Chisholm Trail Church of Christ, under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home. Richard Foster and Leonard Keele will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church parlor at 10 a.m. Interment services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 6, in Hale Center, Texas.
      Joe is survived by his mother, Ruby V. Wood of Olton, Texas; and his wife, Marita of the home; two sons and their wives, Steve and Connie Wood of Amarillo, Texas, and Phil and Diana Wood of Edmond, Oklahoma; two daughters, Pam and Cary Branscum of Austin, Texas, and Patty Wood of Orlando, Florida; and one sister, Charlotte Tucker of Earth, Texas. He is also survived by ten grandchildren.
      He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur, and one brother, Don Wood, and one sister, Ona Marie Wood.
      Pallbearers will be Elmer Hewitt, Jerrol Harmon, Stanley Sayers, Dr. David Buntley, Rick Allred and Carl Wessel.
