Obituary
Clayton L. 'Red' Green Funeral for Clayton L. "Red" Green, 81, Lawton, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Letitia Baptist Church with the Rev. Dan Palesano officiating.
Mr. Green died Friday, Jan. 29, 2010, in Lawton.
Burial will be at Letitia Cemetery under direction of Becker Funeral Home.
He was born Oct. 6, 1928, in Moorewood, to Lena Smith and Fred Lane Green. He graduated as Valedictorian from Moorewood. He later moved to Clinton. When he was 10, he left home and went to work for a family down the road. The money he made he sent back home to his single mother. In 1945, when he was 17, he joined the Navy and was a coreman first class petty officer during World War II. In 1947, he went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a lineman. He was the only student to finish Southwestern Bell's on-the-job training early. He retired from AT&T in 1985 with 38 years of service. After his retirement from AT&T, he established C & L Communications, where he sold and installed commercial phone systems. He also farmed and raised cattle for most of his life. Clayton married Cecilia Palesano on June 9, 1956, in Apache. They were married for 53 years. They had four children: Glenna, Clayton L. "Buddy" Jr., Russell, and Lisa. His most memorable times were spent with his family on Lake Fort Cobb and Lake Texoma. Since Clayton and Cecilia both came from such large families, the majority of the weekends were spent with extended family on the farm playing and eating. During his retirement years he enjoyed time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, checking on his cattle, drinking coffee with his friends at Lawton LP Gas, and having lunch at John & Cooks Bar-B-Que.
He is survived by his wife, Cecilia, of the home; four children and their spouses: Glenn and Glenna Herring, Clayton L "Buddy" Jr. and Lisa Green, Russell and Debi Green, and Lisa and Rocky Carson, all of Lawton; 10 grandchildren: Chariny Herring, Ryan Herring, Nicholas Herring, Walter Glenn, Shelby Green, Taylor Green, Kara Green, Krista Green, Clay Carson, and Colton Carson; six great-grandchildren: Baylee Green, Anna Grace Adair, Katelynn Adair, Chandler Green, Hudson Herring and Garrett Herring; brothers: Joe Green, Willard Green, Royce Green, and Clyde Green; and sisters: Barbara Bodenstein and Francis Hoffman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Lena Green; a brother, Millard Green; and a sister, Lawauna Hicks. Lawton Constitution
