      Sikeston - Funeral service for Gene Raymond Aufdenberg, 49 years old, of rural Matthews, will be held today in the First United Methodist Church here. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery.
      He was a businessman and civic leader. He died Friday, Jan. 6, 1984, when a pistol he was removing from his briefcase in his truck accidentally discharged as he was preparing to go inside his place of business.
      He was born Feb. 5, 1934, in Sikeston, the son of Raymond L. "Gene" and Geneva "Joe" Andres Aufdenberg. On June 21, 1959, he married Alice F. McKensie at Holly Springs, Miss. They survive.
      He graduated from Sikeston High School in 1952. He then attended SEMO State University in Cape Girardeau and graduated from Mississippi State University at Starkville, in 1959.
      He was a veteran of the Army and was a member of the First United Methodist Church here.
      He moved back to Sikeston from Brownsville, Tenn. in 1971. He was owner of Aufdenberg Equipment in Miner. He was first vice president and director of Mid-South Farm Equipment Association and was on the boards of directors of Mercantile Bank of Sikeston and the Missouri Delta Community Hospital here.
      He was a member and past director of the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce and served on the executive council of the Okeechobee District of the Boy Scouts of America.
      On 1980, he was recipient of the area Agri-Business Man of the Year Award. He had been instrumental in the success of the Kenny Rogers United Cerebral Palsey Center.
      Also surviving are daughters, Karen, Alice and Jeane Aufdenberg; brother, Jerry Aufdenberg; and a sister, Mrs. Dave (Lucy) Dealy.
