Merle Airington passed away Sunday, June 27, 2010, in Edmond at age 85. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to all. She had resided in Oklahoma City and Edmond since 1947. She belonged to Sunnyside Baptist Church and was a lifelong member of the Eastern Star. Services will be held in the chapel of Matthews Funeral Home, 601 S. Kelly, Edmond, OK, at 10:00 a.m., Saturday July 3rd, with Pastor Paul Sparks officiating. Merle will be laid to rest at Gethsemane Cemetery in Caddo, OK. She was born November 23, 1924 in Honey Grove, TX to Thomas and Mellie Brooks. Two siblings preceded her in death as infants. At age 12, the family moved to Caddo, Oklahoma. She graduated from Caddo High School and Draughon's Business School. She worked at the 1st National Bank of Caddo and married Norman Airington on July 1, 1944 in Durant, OK. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Ernest of Vacaville, CA; and her husband, Norman. She is survived by her sons, Larry and Joe, and her daughters-in-law, Susan and Suzanne, all of Edmond, OK. She is also survived by grandchildren: Megan and Emily Airington of Denver, CO; Travis Airington (Alexis) of Frisco, TX; Kyle Airington of Edmond, OK; and Amy Allen (Josh) of Springdale, AR. Mama, you were the kindest, most caring person on this Earth. We will keep you in our loving memories until we meet in Heaven and will miss you every day until then.
