Obituary
Marlene Rothschell Smith, 76, formerly of North Platte, passed away March 24, 2013, at home in Long Beach, Calif., after a long battle with a brain tumor. Marlene was born in North Platte in 1937 and graduated from North Platte High School in 1955. She married fellow North Platte resident Dayton Smith in 1956 and they were married until Dayton's passing in 2001. They moved to Long Beach in 1968. Marlene worked in banking, was a secretary and managed a Hallmark store before retiring. Marlene's passion was having a good time and making sure those around her did, too. She loved attending and cheering at her six grandchildren's many events, appeared in TV game shows, couldn't visit North Platte enough and was an avid Huskers fan, but most of all, she loved attending or playing host to a party of family and friends. She was always the life of those parties and her big, beautiful smile will be dearly missed. Marlene is survived by her second husband, Martin Rothschell; her sons, Lane and Kent; her daughter, Diana; her daughters-in-law, Della and Tammy; her son-in-law, Andy; her brothers, Bob, Gary and Ken Wills; and her adoring grandchildren, Carly, Kyle, Mitchell, Delaney, Molly and Sasha. Services will be at 10 a.m.(PDT), Tuesday, April 2, at St. Joseph Church, 6220 E. Willow St., Long Beach, CA, 90815. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 4471 Lincoln Ave., Cypress, Calif. Forest Lawn Memorial-Parks and Mortuaries is in charge of the arrangements.
