Lois S. Coursey passed away on July 16, 2010.

She was born in Winder, Georgia, on November 15, 1919, to Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Summerour. She was the fifth of seven girls and her daddy gave her the first name of Jimmie, correctly concluding that he was not going to have any sons. The family moved to Decatur when she was three years old, and she has lived in the Decatur area ever since except for five years in Memphis and one year in Charlotte.

After graduating from Decatur Girls' High School in 1936, she worked for Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation. She joined Decatur United Methodist Church in 1927 at the age of eight and remained active in the church until her recent illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Daniel M. Coursey, Sr. She is survived by her son, Judge Daniel M. Coursey, Jr., and daughter-in-law, Diane Ison Coursey, son Jeffrey R. Coursey and daughter-in-law Dr. Martha White Coursey, grandchildren Daniel M. Coursey, III, Dr. Courtney Coursey Moreno and her husband Dr. Ricardo Moreno, Dr. Deborah D. Joiner and her husband Kendall Lemieux and Russ M. Joiner and his wife Gina Joiner and two great-grandchildren, Dillon and Nicholas Joiner, and her sister Norma Hardman and many nieces and nephews.

She was an expert bridge player and enjoyed socializing with her many friends, but devoted most of her life to her family and never missed a chance to tell them how much she loved them.

Funeral services will be held at the Decatur First United Methodist Church on Monday, July 19, 2010 at 11 A.M. with Bishop L. Bevel Jones and Dr. Katy Hinman officiating. Mrs. Coursey will be placed in state at 10 A.M. at the church. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 PM at A. S. Turner & Sons, 2773 N. Decatur Road, Decatur, Georgia. Those desiring may send contributions to the United Methodist Children's Home, 500 South Columbia Drive, Decatur, Georgia, or the charity of your choice. A. S.
