Obituary
Velma Anderson Coursey, a resident of Coushatta, died Thursday, April 26, 2007, at Natchitoches Parish Hospital, Natchitoches. She was 88, born April 10, 1918, in Sandersville, Ga., and a former resident of Peachtree City, Ga.
Religious service at Mowell Funeral Home chapel, Peachtree, with the Rev. Sean Robinson officiating. Burial in Westminster Gardens.
Preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Paul B. Coursey Sr.; brother, Walter Leroy Anderson; and sisters, Edna Miller Faircloth and Sue Hutchins.
She is survived by two sons, Paul Bruce Coursey Jr. and wife Joy, Marietta, Ga., and Bert Marcel Coursey and wife Rebecca, Frederick, Md.; two daughters, Dawn C. Brewer and husband John, Coushatta, and Joy C. Phillips and husband Larry, Houston; brother, J. Marcel Anderson and wife Orlene, Chattanooga, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Coursey graduated from Ashburn High School in Ashburn, Ga., in 1936. She was a faithful member of the United Church for almost 70 years, with the past 19 years at Peachtree City United Methodist Church. She was a member of the American Business Women's Association and American Society of Women Accountants. She served as site manager for AARP Tax Aid, assisting others in preparing income taxes. We children appreciate how mother and dad instilled in all of us a love of higher education and pleasure in lifelong learning.
