Obituary
Col. Harold "Biz" Bisbort, 90, of Decatur, Ga., formerly of the Allentown area, died Saturday, Oct. 24 in Briarwood Nursing Home, Tucker, Ga. He was the husband of Penelope (Mielenz) Bisbort. He was an engineer with Robert & Co., Atlanta, Ga., from 1963 until retiring. After retirement, he was employed in real estate and income tax. Previously, he was a quality control engineer at the Thiokol Co., Brunswick, Ga., and a chief engineer of the White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. A 1931 graduate of Drexel University and a 1950 graduate of the Army Staff College, Norfolk, Va., he also received certificates from Clumbia and Johns Hopkins universities. Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the the late George H. and Emma (Kirchner) Bisbort. An Army veteran, he was deputy to the commanding general of the Corps of Engineers, South Atlantic Div., and in Tokyo, where he assisted with logistical planning during the Korean War. During World War II, he assisted with the New Guinea and Leyte Gulf landings and received a Bronze Star with two Oak Clusters. He was awarded a life membership to the Society of Military Engineers and received a Gold Medal in 1955 when he founded two SAME chapters in Alabama. He was also a member and past president of the Atlanta chapter of Retired Officers and member of the Atlanta Ski Club. He was a charter member of the Northlake (Ga.) Rotary Club, where he was named outstanding Rotarian in 1974. He was a steering committee member and first president of the Oak Grove Chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons. Survivors: Wife; daughters, Patricia Stevens and Mary Penelope Stone, both of Atlanta; son, Alan Lloyd of Cheshire, Conn., and four grandchildren. Memorial services: 3 p.m. Tuesday, Clairmont Presbyterian Church, Decatur, followed by graveside services in Floral Hills Memory Garden, Tucker. Call 2-3 p.m. Tuesday.
