xa Lee Smith, beloved "Granny", lover of the Lord, life, family, and friends, passed away on June 11, 2008 in Melrose, New Mexico.

Born in Oplin, Texas on October 30, 1921 to Joe and Neely Monroe, she was the "3rd" oldest of six children. When she was six years old the family moved to New Mexico and homesteaded North of Melrose. On December 24, 1937 she married her childhood sweetheart, Cohee F. Smith. Together they lived a very interesting and exciting life. They lived in several foreign countries as well as most of the states. In 1983 they moved back to Melrose and Exa Lee developed a passion for painting, sewing and cross-stitching. It gave her great joy to give her creations to those she loved.

She celebrated and lived life to the fullest; therefore we celebrate her life and will miss her greatly. Survivors include, Children, Nadene Roper and husband Leonard and Jodie Boyd and husband Steve; Grandchildren, Michael Roper and wife Brenda, Tommy Roper and wife Karen, Cheryl Roper, Bobby Boyd, Cohee Mastin and husband Nathan; Great Grandchildren, Kelly Roper and husband Stephen, Clayton Roper, Amanda Ward, Danielle Ward, Rachel Lentz and husband Willie, Crystal Marshall and husband Jake, Autumn Campbell and husband Todd, Summer Roper, Hunter Mastin; Great-Great Grandchildren, Dakota Newman, Tyler Newman, Ariah Lentz, Caydon Lentz, Mallory Marshall and Kyndall Marshall; Brother, Troy Monroe and wife Linda; Sister-in-law, Betty Monroe and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cohee F. Smith; parents, Joe & Neely Monroe; brothers, Earl Monroe, Jim Monroe and Buel Monroe and sister, Lola Burk.

Services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Saturday, June 14, at the First United Methodist Church in Melrose with Rev. Danny Sanders officiating. Burial will follow at Melrose Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be her grandsons and great grandsons.

Exa Lee was excited about the new food pantry being established in Melrose and the family would appreciate memorial gifts to the Good Samaritan Food Pantry.
