Obituary
Graveside services for James W. Monroe, 75, of Lubbock will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the City of Lubbock Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Ainsworth officiating.
Burial will be under the direction of Rix Funeral Directors.
He died Thursday, June 15, 2000, at Windcrest RehabCenter.
He was born May 12, 1925, in Oplin. He married Joan Florence on June 23, 1985, in Vernon. He was employed with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for 10 years. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled Veterans. He was a Baptist. He was preceded in death by a son, Thorton Monroe on April 12, 1994.
Survivors include his wife; two stepsons, Tom Timberlake of Hereford and Paul Timberlake of Eagle Nest, N.M.; two brothers, Earl and Troy, both of Clovis, N.M.; a sister Exa Lee Smith of Melrose, N.M.; and eight grandchildren.
