  Obituary   Barney R. Christesson, 55, of North Abner St., passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Carlsbad Medical Center. Graveside services will be held on Mon. (May 16) at 10:00 a.m. at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park. Rev. Jimmy Tarvin of the Happy Valley Baptist Church will officiate. There will be no visitation. Barney Russell Christesson Jr. was born March 8, 1956 to Barney and Opal Nance Christesson in Plainview, Texas. Barney came to Carlsbad in 1964 when his family relocated seeking work. He was raised and educated locally graduating from Carlsbad High School with the Class of 1974. Barney was the consummate outdoorsman and sports fanatic. Fishing, football, basketball and baseball were his passions. He was also extremely good with his hands and could fix almost anything, broken or not. Barney was a miner by trade and Baptist by faith. Barney worked underground operating numerous machines at AMAX, Western Ag and Kerr Magee. He was preceded in death by both parents Barney is survived by his son Rusty Christesson of Fayetteville, AR; Amy Chadborn and husband Casey and Samantha Christesson of Carlsbad; Brothers Mark Christesson and wife Karen of Carlsbad and Kelly Christesson of San Antonio, TX; sisters Connie Shuping of Hale, TX, Sandy Allen and husband Mike of Summers, AR, and Kaydenna Stephenson of Carlsbad and 4 grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Dalton Christesson, Jacob VanDyne, Ricky Lassiter, Michael Lambert, Ysidro Methola and Josh Frye.
