      Janita Kay McKinley Harris passed away at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas, on July 19, 2009, after a lengthy battle with cancer.� "Cowboy", as all the McKinley girls were called by their Dad, was born May 24, 1937, in Melrose, New Mexico to E.C. and Cloris McKinley.
      She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Walter "Bud" Harris; four children, Andrea (Michael) Kyte of Tres Piedras, New Mexico, Brian (Connie) Harris of Parker, Colorado, Patti (Tim) Richardson of Portales, New Mexico, and Steve (Diane) Harris of Roswell, New Mexico; seven grandchildren, Erica (Robert) Arena of Valdosta, Georgia, Alianne (Jeff) Bacon of Goldsboro, North Carolina, Theo Kyte of Tres Piedras, New Mexico, Tim (Veronica) Richardson of Portales, New Mexico, Charlyn Richardson of Portales, New Mexico, Taylor Harris and Lane Harris of Roswell, New Mexico, and two great-grandchildren, Annabella Bacon and Johnathan Bacon of Goldsboro, North Carolina and two sisters, Wanda Tarpley of Roswell, New Mexico and Ouida Lowrey of Albuquerque, New Mexico and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
      Janita McKinley married Walter Harris in Portales, New Mexico on January 22, 1959.� She was a wife and mother of four children. Janita began working for the New Mexico State Police on March 15, 1971 as a dispatcher.� She rose to the position of Administrative Secretary and retired from that position on December 27, 1996. They moved to Roswell, New Mexico in the Fall of 2003.
      She is preceded in death by her parents, Cloris McKinley (12/13/1947) and E.C. McKinley (5/4/1983).
      Cremation has occurred and a private interment will be held at the Portales Cemetery.� A public memorial service is scheduled for Friday, July 24, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of the Nazarene, 823 University Drive, Portales, New Mexico.� In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting a donation to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
