Obituary
Laurice Jensen Weir, 88, of North Platte, Neb., and formerly of Fort Worth, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, in North Platte. Memorial service: 4 p.m. Saturday at the grave in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Abilene. Odean Colonial Chapel At C & Sycamore is in charge of arrangements. Laurice was born Aug. 21, 1920, to Robert Pierce and Sarah Annie Johnson Slough in Oplin, where she grew up and attended school. Laurice married Dee Carrel "D.C." Rutherford on June 12, 1937, in Baird. They made their home there in the Abilene area. She worked as a PBX operator in the Abilene area and for the Fort Worth State School until it closed. Laurice married Edwin B. Weir, on Aug. 12, 1967, in Oklahoma and they made their home in Fort Worth. After Edwin's death, she later moved to North Platte in January 2004 to be near her daughter, Beth. Laurice was a member of the Church of Christ, Petroleum Club Desk and Derrick, South Fort Worth Business Women's Club, PBX Club and a garden club. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edwin; stepson, Dean Weir; two sisters, Roberta Dorothea Stephenson and Betty Lou Christine Townsend; brother, Paul Weldon Slough; and two grandchildren. Survivors: Daughter, Beth Parrish (Jerry) of North Platte; sons, Wayne Rutherford (Atriel) of Abilene and Gene Rutherford of Big Spring; stepson, Morris Weir (Barb) Clifton; sister, Jackie Knight (Oscar) of Granbury; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and many friends.
