Obituary
Mary Carolyn Sommers was born June 25, 1931 in Linden, Texas. She was called home suddenly to be with the Lord on April 6, 2012. She is survived by her husband, A.D. Sommers, and preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T.D. Sansing, and first husband, J.F. McGehearty.
Carolyn graduated from Spearman High School in 1948. She attended Tarleton State University and graduated from The University of Texas in 1952 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Masters Degree in 1956.
Carolyn was an elementary teacher for 36 years in Corpus Christi, Houston, Bellville and California. She was an avid reader and her many interests included gardening, dancing, travelling, folk art painting and collecting special items.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, A.D. Sommers; sisters, Tynelle Jordan and husband David of Katy and Martha Coursey and husband Perry of Lubbock; stepsons, Mike McGehearty and wife Shirley of Bay City and grandchildren Kevin and Sarah, Pat McGehearty and wife Sylvia of Dallas and grandson, Eric and wife Heather; stepchildren, Augie Sommers, wife D.J. of Wallis and children, Annette Bertrand and husband Jesse of Orchard and children, Mike Sommers of Wallis, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family wishes to acknowledge and give special thanks to Andrea McMullen and Lidia Robles for their loving care of Carolyn while at home.
