Obituary
DALLAS — Robert Dewitt Steele, 82, of Dallas died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2014.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in First United
Methodist Church in Higgins with the Rev. Blake Durham officiating. Burial will follow in Higgins Cemetery. Arrangements are by Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian.
Robert was born in San Antonio to Dewitt D. and Velma Nicholas Steele. He was a graduate of Corpus Christi High School and served in the Army during the Korean War. On Aug. 14, 1955, he married Nell Beth Sansing in First United
Methodist Church in Higgins.
After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in petroleum engineering from Texas A&M University in 1960, he was employed by Texas Pacific Coal & Oil Co. and Sun Oil Co. A certified professional engineer, he served a number of years as an American Petroleum Institute Standards committee member.
He thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors and took great pleasure in teaching his children how to hunt, fish and appreciate working on the family ranch. After retirement, he enjoyed extensive research of his family’s genealogy.
He was a member of Lake Highlands United Methodist Church and was a master Mason. A devoted father, he served as Boy Scout Troop 415 camping chairman while his two sons were achieving the rank of eagle scout.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Nell; a daughter, Diane Elaine Moulton of Fredericksburg, Va.; two sons, Charles Douglas Steele of Rio Rancho, N.M., and Robert Allen
Steele of Dallas; his
granddaughters, Courtney Lynn and Angela Beth Moulton; his grandsons, Chance Ethan and Parker Allen Steele; two sisters, Dorothy Ellis of Tyler and Marilyn Barnett of Austin; a brother, Charles W. Steele and wife Kathy of Bertram; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to First United Methodist Church, 220 N. Main St., Higgins, TX 79046; Lake Highlands United Methodist Church, 9015 Plano Road, Dallas, TX 75238; or MD Anderson Cancer Center, 1515 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, TX 77030.
