Obituary
Elizabeth Ann "Dixie" Lyons, 68, of Grenada, passed away Feb. 4, 2008, at Grenada Lake Medical Center after a long battle with cancer. Visitation was Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, in Grenada from 5 to 9 p.m. The Funeral service was Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Dr. Clarence Cooper, the Rev. David Bryant, and the Rev. David Tipton officiating. Burial followed in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Grenada. Dixie was born on Feb. 27, 1939, in Maben. She and her husband, Gene own and operate Dixie Auto Sales and established Dixie Automobile Auction in Grenada in 1981. Dixie was an accomplished musician who loved music and used her talents to glorify the Lord. She sang in the church choir and was an active member of the Joy Sunday School Class at Emmanuel. She was past-president of Grenada Ladies Civitan Club, a spotlighted woman during National Business Week in the Business and Professional Women's Club, and active in numerous other civic and charitable organizations. She left a legacy of faith, service, devotion and love for family, friends, church and community. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Gene Lyons, two daughters; Pam Moore and her husband, Kevin, and Beverly Hoop and her husband, Rusty, all of Grenada, three sisters: Larrene Ashmore and Warrene Stewart, both of Clarksdale, and Linda Haynes of Merigold, Mississippi. She also leaves behind six grandchildren and two step-grandsons who all loved and adored her; Lauren Moore, Paige Condy, Meredith Moore, Emily Moore, Haley Hoop, & Peyton Hoop all of Grenada, Patrick Lott of Clinton, and Jeffrey Abels of Olive Branch, and one great grandchild; Hayden Parker, and several brothers and sisters-in-laws. She is preceded in death by her parents; Millard Fillmore and Effie Myrtle Wright Douglas, two brothers; Kyle Douglas and Gerald Douglas, one sister; Doris Ashley, and one step-daughter; Shirley Ables. Pallbearers were Jimmy Boling, Gene DuBois, Donald Franklin, Manly Hayward, Dwayne Westmoreland, and Joe Whitten. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Emmanuel Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society. Garner-Harper Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
