Obituary
MANTEE - James Morris "Big Daddy" Wright, 98, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, at the Floy Dyer Nursing Home in Houston. He was born July 18, 1910, in Clay County to Callie Doni Morris and Benjamin Franklin Wright. He was a crane operator for Babcock & Wilcox Company for 22 years and a member of Pine Bluff Baptist Church. He married Mildred Johnson Wright on July 12, 1934. She preceded him in death on May 27, 2007. He was a Master Mason and a member of Montpelier Masonic Lodge F&AM No. 220.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pine Bluff Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Stallings officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Bluff Cemetery at Mantee with Masonic graveside honors. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include three daughters, Emmajean Lee Stafford (Buddy) of Greensboro, N.C., Polly Wright Horn (Albert) of Houston and Pauline Wright Neal (Darold) of Mantee; seven grandchildren, Jerry Stafford and Wanda Stafford Garrett (Ernie) of Greensboro, N.C., David Awtrey (Donna) of Mooreville, Cathy Awtrey Wacaser (Jimmy) of Del Rio, Texas, Ronnie Neal (Tammy) and Tracy Neal of Mantee, and Jada Neal Blissard (Jody) of Oxford; 13 great-grandchildren, Lee Stafford and Lexi Stafford of Greensboro, N.C., Jason Garrett (Monica) of Southern Pines, N.C., Jessica Garrett Jackson (Matthew) of Sanford, N.C., Brooke Awtrey and Tyler Awtrey of Mooreville, Natalie Wacaser Mirtich (John) and Emmalee Wacaser of Del Rio, Texas, Audrey Wacaser of San Antonio, TX, Cheyanne Neal and Skylar Neal of Mantee, Cassidy Neal of Mathiston and Lillie Beth Blissard of Oxford; eight great-great-grandchildren, Chase Garrett, Sam Garrett, Julianna Garrett and Helena Garrett, all of Southern Pines, N.C., Luke Jackson and Kate Jackson of Sandford, N.C., Carter Canchola and Chloe Canchola of Del Rio, Texas; a sister in law, Wilma Johnson Wright of Mantee; a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three brothers, Roy Wright, William Wright and Carey Wright; and three sisters, Marie Wight Willingham, Myrtle Wright Douglas and Elizabeth Wright McCarter.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, David Awtrey, Ronnie Neal, Tracy Neal, Jimmy Wacaser, Jody Blissard, Skyler Neal, Tyler Neal and Adrain Larson.
Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Pine Bluff Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. The body will lie at the church from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday.
