      James R. “J. R.” Johnson, age 74, of Redfield, formerly of Pine Bluff, died Tuesday, April 29, 2014.

      A son of the late John Clarence Johnson and Willie Carrell Monk, he was born June 3, 1939 in Dallas, TX. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John C. Johnson, Jr.; and a sister, Josie Lee.

      Mr. Johnson served in the United States Navy for four years, where he traveled the world.

      He also attended Cherrywood Assembly of God Church at Redfield. He moved to Pine Bluff in 1960, and retired as a conductor from the Cotton Belt/Union Pacific Railway in 2006 after 46 years of service.

      Survivors include his wife, Joyce Maxcy Johnson, whom he married on September 29, 1961; a son, Maxcy Johnson of Wichita, KS; a daughter, Tracy Lawhon (Tony) of Redfield; two brothers, John W. Johnson of Baton Rouge, LA and Charles E. Johnson of Arlington, TX; a sister Alma Pannell of Dallas; and the loves of his life, his grandchildren Gracie Lawhon and Nash Lawhon.

      Homegoing celebration will be Friday, 11:00 a.m. at Fuller Hale-South Funeral Chapel in Pine Bluff. Glen Flemmons, John Henry, and Tony Lawhon will officiate.

      The family will greet friends Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. until service time.
