Obituary
Rickie passed away Thursday, April 14, 2005, in Lubbock. He was born on June 8, 1952 in Brownfield to D.J. & Ida Yowell. He married Carol Aline Downey on Aug. 6, 1977 in Tahoka. Rickie was a graduate of Brownfield High School, and then received his Bachelors at Lubbock Christian University. He later received his Masters at Texas Tech University. He taught Special Ed. at Slaton High School retiring in 2000 after teaching for 23 years. Rickie served as President of Classroom Teachers Association in Slaton. He was an active member of the South Plains Referee Assoc.; refereeing football, basketball, and baseball for 20 years. He was an elder at the Westside Church of Christ. Rickie loved camping with his family in the mountains.
He is preceded in death by a daughter, Amber Aline Yowell, and his father, D.J. Yowell. Survivors include his wife, Carol; three children, Lora Lynn Yowell Smith and husband, Shelby, Jayson Mac Yowell, and David Joe Yowell all of Wilson; his mother, Ida Yowell of Brownfield; two sisters, Judy Woodard of Tahoka, and Kim Mikilik of Wall; six nieces; two nephews; three great-nephews, a great-niece; and many loving friends and family. The family suggests memorials to Vista Care Hospice. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m., Sunday, April 17, at the funeral home.
Services for Rickie Lynn Yowell, 52, of Wilson will be 4 p.m., Monday, April 18, 2005 at Westside Church of Christ in Slaton with Mr. Bill Looney officiating and Mr. Billy Parmer and Mr. Jack Gordon assisting. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home of Lubbock.
