      J. Mildred Hale Young, passed on to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 6, 2001.
      A resident of Los Fresnos for 51 years, she was being lovingly cared for at Golden Palms Nursing Center in Harlingen at the time of her death.
      Mildred was born on February 16, 1921 in Wood County, in deep East Texas, she moved to the Valley in 1950. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Los Fresnos where she taught the Beginners Sunday School class for many years and served in the Womens Missionary Union. She worked for Los Fresnos C.I.S.D. as a Home Economics teacher for 39 years. She was an active sponsor of the senior class and the Future Homemakers of America and a longtime member of the Delta Kappa Gamma and Kappa Kappa Iota sororities.
      Mrs. Young was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, John M. Young Sr.; her parents, William Jessie Buster and Sara Lucreta Lucy Burnet Hale; a sister, Syble Woody, and a brother, Glen Hale.
      She is survived by her children, Wanda Ann Finley and husband Ben of Sanger, Elizabeth Sharon Young of Los Fresnos, John M. Young, Jr. and wife Janie of Gansevoort, NY, David William Young and wife Amanda of Los Fresnos; four grandchildren Gerald Finley and wife Jackie, Scott Finley and wife Shala, Kathryn and James Young; and four great grandchildren.
      Local services will be held at First Baptist Church of Los Fresnos on Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at 11 a.m. Another service will be held in Winnsboro, Texas, pending arrangements with Beaty Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Lee Cemetery in Winnsboro. Pastor George Morrison, III will be officiaitng with the deacon body of First Baptist serving as honorary pallbearers.
      The family requests that memorial contributions be sent to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund, the Watson Wise Dialysis Center in Harlingen, or to the senders charity of choice.
