      Sheldon Ward Hughes was born August 8, 1923 in Cleveland, OH to Sheldon and Florence (Wank) Hughes. He passed away April 10, 2015. Ward earned a BS in Forestry from Pennsylvania State University in 1948 and pursued Masters Studies at Yale. A WWII Veteran, Ward served in the 82nd Airborne Division, Company C, 325th GIR from August 1944 - January 1946. He was a Purple Heart Recipient. He married Theo Virginia Smith in 1960, and they had two sons, David Ward Hughes, and Thomas Daniel Hughes. They were married 53 years. Ward was owner of Ward Hughes Company, a food brokerage firm, which was founded in 1968. He remained active in the business until 2004. In addition to his wife, Ward is survived by his children, David Hughes and his wife, Beverly; and son Thomas Hughes, and his wife Cynthia; and five grandchildren, Matthew, Anna, and Joseph Hughes, and Nash and Eleanor Hughes. Ward was a longtime member of Lovers Lane United Methodist Church in Dallas. Graveside funeral to be held 11am Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Edgewood, TX. Reception immediately following at Cheatham Memorial United Methodist Church in Edgewood.
