Obituary
Services for Maxie Hughes Wilson, 70, of Tyler will be held Saturday, June 12, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Marvin United Methodist Church with Dr. John Robbins officiating. A private burial will precede the service under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.
Mr. Wilson passed away June 10, 2010, at the Legacy Hospice Serenity House in Tyler.
He was born Sept. 22, 1939, in Tyler to the late Murph and Emily Hughes Wilson and was a lifelong resident of Tyler. He graduated from Tyler High School in 1957, where he played football on the team that went to the State Championship in 1955. He was named Most Valuable Lineman in District 8AAAA in his senior year. While in high school, he was also the vice president of the "T Association." He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1961 from Southern Methodist University, where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. After returning to Tyler, he worked as a landman and he remained active in the oil and gas business throughout his life. Mr. Wilson was a member of Marvin United Methodist Church and the East Texas Landman's Association. In his spare time, he enjoyed running and participating in races.
Mr. Wilson is survived by a loving family including his wife of 47 years, Flora Wilson of Tyler; son, Robert Hughes Wilson and wife Laura of Tyler; granddaughter, Emily Wilson; and grandson, Luke Wilson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Culver, Jim Knowles, Joe McMahan, James Gulledge, Francis Kay, Bob Bright, Lonnie Halbert, Jack Stringer, Jeff Heller, Harold Carter, Bill Johnson, Newell McCallum, Gerry Murrell, Neal Findley and all the "High School Razzers."
Visitation is scheduled for Friday, June 11, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler.
