Charlie Daniel Smith

Charlie Daniel Smith of Benson, Ariz., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011 in Tuscon, Ariz., surrounded by family and friends. Dan was born Sept. 12, 1935 in Jayton, Texas, to Hobbson and Olifay Jones Smith. Preceded in death by all his siblings and parents, his wife, Alva, in 1976, and youngest daughter, lisa in 1990.
Dan spent most of his life working on different ranches in Colorado and Southern Arizona, one of which was the Empirita Ranch, located outside of Benson. Dan really loved being a cowboy, and was so proud of the work he did on the ranch. Dan was an "Extra" in several movies that were made here in Southern Arizona. "Young Guns" was one of them. In his younger years, he worked in the oil fields of West Texas.
Dan is survived by his children, Daniel (Cathy) smith of Kingman Ariz., Arlene (Randall) Clark of Lubbock, Texas, Toby Smith of Benson, Stacy Sturguess (Rick) of Benson, also his friend and partner Sandy Bosworth of Pomerene. He has 15 grandkids and 15 great-grandkids and many nieces and nephews, cousins, and great-nieces and nephews who adored him. Dan, Dad, Pops, Granpa, Uncle Dan, Uncle Puss, Dan-o and Cuz will truly be missed.
A memorial service will be held at Turquoise Hills CC on Saturday, Nov. 5, att 11 a.m. on the outside patio, and lunch will be served immediately following in the dining room. For any questions, please call Stacy at 221-1758 or Toby at 586-9405.
