      SPRINGFIELD - Homemaker and Effingham County native of Salzburger descent Lena Exley Wendelken, 85, died Thursday, March 20, 2008, at Effingham Extended Care.


      She was a member of Springfield United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, William Ralph Wendelken Jr.


      Survivors include her daughter, Dixie Weitman (Gary) of Springfield; sons, Will Wendelken (Kathleen) of Springfield and Roy Wendelken of Newington; four grandchildren, Stephanie Weitman, Stephen Weitman (Amy), Lauren Boykin (Stuart) and Margaret Hughes; a great-granddaughter, Kaylee Holland; a sister, Wilgenia Carrigg of Rincon; and a number of nieces and nephews.


      Funeral services were Saturday at Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home, Effingham Chapel. Interment was in Springfield Cemetery Annex.
