Obituary
Kessler, Mildred Mary Dickerson
Rincon - Mildred Mary Dickerson Kessler, 80, passed on to be with the Lord on Friday, September 24, 2004, after a long struggle with Alzheimer s disease. She was at home with her family and dedicated caregivers. Born in Bulloch County on March 26, 1924, Mrs. Kessler was the eldest of 12 children born to Lucille and Herbert B. Dickerson. Her family moved to Rincon in the late 1930s, and the town stayed her home for the rest of her life. She and her now deceased husband, Callie W. Kessler established the Kessler Plumbing Company in 1959 and later became involved in apartment and motel development. She was dedicated to both family and business. Mrs. Kessler, affectionately known as Mrs. Mildred by many, was active in her Church and community. She joined Jerusalem Lutheran Church in 1941 just prior to her marriage at age 17 and volunteered much of her time over the following half-century to Lutheran women s organizations and children s Sun day School and Bible School. From 1975 to 1993, she dutifully served as the first secretary of the Board of Directors of New Ebenezer Retreat Center. Mrs. Kessler also enjoyed homemaking, gardening, and sewing. She shared these talents with the community through involvement in the Rincon Garden Club and The Friends Group, and her leadership of the Ebenezer quilt project culminated in the beautiful patchwork quilt that currently hangs in the Georgia Salzburger Museum. She spent vacations traveling with her husband, children and friends throughout the United States and Europe. With her engaging smile and gentle nature, Mrs. Kessler never met a stranger. Her tremendous capacity to love was especially shared with her family. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Martha Kessler of Windermere, FL and two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ann and Franklin Berry of Bowling Green, KY and Marilyn and Anurag Mani of Winter Park, FL. She had a particular fondness for her three g randchildren, Mark Kessler of Windermere, FL, Laura Kessler of Savannah and Jennie Berry of Millbrae, CA. Mrs. Kessler also is survived by a sister, Melba Coats of Guyton and four brothers, Edward Dickerson and Harley Dickerson of Ellabell, Louis Dickerson of Jacksonville, FL and Ira Dickerson of Rincon. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Beutel Dickerson, Aubrey Dickerson, Herbert B. Dickerson, Jr., Kermit Dickerson, Abner Chubby Dickerson and Jack Dickerson. Mildred Kessler leaves a legacy of kindness, generosity and peace.
