      Wendelken, George Leland



      Guyton - Mr. George Leland Wendelken, age 62, died Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at Hospice Savannah.


      The Effingham County native was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church and a member of the Shirley Sharpe Sunday School Class. He previously served as the Sunday School Superintendent and was a counselor for the youth group of the church .


      He was employed at SSA/Cooper Stevedoring Company.


      Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Maree Nease Wendelken of Guyton; two sons and daughter-in-law, George Kerry Wendelken, Jeffrey and Penny Wendelken; one daughter and son-in-law, LaDonna and Robbie Purvis all of Guyton; five grandchildren, Britni, Anna, J.B. Wendelken, Brandie and Martina Purvis all of Guyton; one sister, Lula Dixon of Guyton and several nieces, nephews and cousins.


      Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.


      Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Bethesda UMC.


      Mr. Wendelken will lie in state one hour prior to the service.


      Interment will be in the Church Cemetery .


      Remembrances may be given to the Good Samaritan Fund at Bethesda UMC, 3608 Midland Road, Guyton, GA 31312 or Hospice Savannah, PO Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416.
