Mary Ellen Key McDuffie
AMERICUS — Mrs. Mary Ellen Key McDuffie, 95, of 2001 S. Lee St., Americus died Friday afternoon Nov. 13, 2009, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus. Funeral Services will be held fat 2 p.m. today, Nov. 15, 2009, from the graveside at Oak Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Dupree officiating. Asked to serve as honorary pallbearers are Bart Key, Earl Joseph Mathis Jr., Don Stovall, Charles Morgan Jr., Earl Williams, Lee Friedman, Mike Key and Ben Friedman.
Mrs. McDuffie was born Feb. 24, 1914, in Columbus, Ga., the daughter of the late Ben W. Key Sr. and Claude Ella West Key. She was acting director of Magnolia Manor Retirement Center from 1967 to 1980, and was a member of First United Methodist Church. Mrs. McDuffie moved to Americus in 1950, resided in their home at 227 W. Dodson St., then after the death of her husband moved to independent living at Magnolia Manor. Mrs. McDuffie attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, Ga. She was a member of Azalea Garden Club and Missionary Circle at First United Methodist Church.
Mrs. McDuffie is survived by a sister Kathryn Key of Brunswick, Ga.; brother and sister-in-law Ben W. Key Jr. and Rose of Manchester, Ga. Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. McDuffie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, James Franklin McDuffie; a daughter Claudia Ellen McDuffie and a granddaughter Ellen Claire Barksdale.
