      Dorsey Lamar Sammons, 83, died Jan. 16 at home.
      He was a native of Montgomery County and the widower of Evelyn Purcell Sammons.
      He was a member of CCC Camp at Brevard, N.C., before enlisting in the Navy. He served in World War II.
      He was a member of Acacia Lodge No. 452, F&AM, and the Georgia Peace Officers Association. He was a member of South Gardens Baptist Church, served on the Board of Deacons, and taught Adult Sunday School Class.
      He formerly worked at the Baptist Children's Home in Baxley, in charge of the day-to-day operations. He retired from Union Camp Corp. after more than 30 years as a security guard.


      SURVIVORS: a daughter, Tonya Sammons Pruett of Charleston; a sister, Zelma Sammons Nasworthy of Savannah; three grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.


      FUNERAL: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel, burial in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. -Savannah Now, Jan 2000
