      Velma Todd Sims, 102, of Ocilla, Georgia died Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at the Heritage Care Home in Ocilla.


      Funeral services will be held 2 PM Friday, May 7, 2010, at the Ocilla Baptist Church with Rev. Rob Dowdle officiating. Interment will follow in Ocilla Cemetery.


      Mrs. Sims was born May 28, 1907 in Mitchell, GA to the late James N. and Mittie Cooper Todd. She was a 1926 graduate of Gibson High School and attended Agricola Teachers College. Mrs. Sims lived in Irwin County most of her life, moving to Lax in 1928 where she taught school for two years. She was a former insurance agent for Murphey Rogers Insurance Company. Mrs. Sims was a member of the Ocilla Baptist Church, the Lydian Sunday school class and the WMU.


      Mrs. Sims is survived by her daughter: Dr. Alyce Sims of St. Augustine, FL; 3 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Hartwell Sims, Sr. and two sons, William Hartwell Sims, Jr. and Jimmy Todd Sims.
