Mrs. Sims was born October 5, 1934 in Irwin County, Georgia to the late John B. and Elizabeth Whitley Harper. She grew up in Ocilla and graduated from Ocilla High School. She later became employed as a media specialist at the College. She was an active member of the Hilliard First Baptist Church for over 40 years. She directed the senior adult ministry, served as a greeter, and volunteered in the nursery. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, the Frisky Girls, the Walkers, and loved being included in the Bessent family reunions.
