Obituary
Robert Xavier Billups, of Midland, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2006 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Born November 2, 1943 in Corpus Christi to Andrew X. and Dorothy Faye Capehart Billups, Bob was raised across the state but attended high school in Monahans and Seminole. He followed his father's footsteps into the oil fields, working both stateside, overseas and on the seas with various oil companies since 1962. Bob traveled extensively around the world while living and working in such interesting places as Scotland, Libya, Spain, Malta, Kuwait, Azerbaijan, Somalia, Singapore, South Africa, Equatorial Guinea, Argentina, Chile, Australia, Haiti and Saudi Arabia. He had resided in Midland for many years and was well known locally for his years of work around the oil fields of West Texas, New Mexico and Louisiana. Bob met his sweetheart Faye King at their 25th Monahans High School reunion and they were married in 1988. Faye quickly became Bob's devoted travel companion. Bob was proud to work for Global Santa Fe International in Houston, and at the time of his passing had been working on the Gulf Coast of Texas on off-shore oil rigs damaged during last year's hurricane season. His work on the Gulf Coast was finished this past week and Bob and his wife Faye were looking forward to a new adventure in Singapore and a following retirement. Bob is survived by his loving wife Faye, one son Michael Billups, and two daughters, Lori and husband Scott Steel and Brenda and husband Randy Wilson. He also left two dear sisters Nancy McKinney and Beverly and husband Bill Parnell, 11 grandchildren, numerous family members, great friends the world over and his dear Dallas Cowboys. The family will receive friends at Ellis Funeral Home, Tuesday, April 18, 2006 between the hours of 6:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. Funeral services have been scheduled for 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at Kelview Heights Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
