Raymond McClain, 78, a longtime resident of Greensboro, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1999, (Pearl Harbor Day), at his home.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, at Groometown United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
He was born Feb. 13, 1921, in Gadsden, Ala. "Mac" McClain was a veteran of World War II and while aboard the light cruiser USS Nashville, participated in various operations in the South Pacific.
He retired from Exxon in 1977, after 34 years of service.
He is survived by a brother, Carthell McClain of Inglis, Fla.; two daughters, Jackie Lockerman and Barbara Emery of Greensboro; and a son, Dallas McClain, also of Greensboro. His legacy includes six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased earlier this year by his wife of 60 years, Ruth Styers McClain.
Family and viewing will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, at the church.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, any contributions be made to the church at 5005 Groometown Rd., Greensboro, N.C.; or any other worth while entity.
