Betty Givens Alexander, 93, died peacefully Tuesday morning, Nov. 13, 2007.
Funeral: 1 p.m. Thursday in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth, 800 W. Fifth St. The Rev. Dr. William Longsworth and the Rev. Dr. Lamar Smith will officiate. Interment: She will be laid to rest with family members in Oakwood Cemetery following a brief reception in the courtyard at the church after the service.
Mere words cannot express our sorrow at the loss of our mother, Betty Givens Alexander. She was born in Fort Worth on Nov. 8, 1914, the beloved daughter of Dr. and Mrs. J.M. Givens. Betty was a member of the pioneer Fort Worth Wallis family. Her Grandfather Wallis held extensive real estate investments in the community.
She was a graduate of Central High School, now R.L. Paschal, and received her M.S. in child sociology from Texas Christian University. An active volunteer in her church and the community, Betty was a member of First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth, the Woman's Club of Fort Worth and several of its sections, the P.E.O. and several other organizations. She was a longtime board member of the Oakwood Cemetery Association, still serving on its advisory board.
At the church, Betty held positions its board and was instrumental in the church's mission to the homeless and less fortunate. She was a daughter of God and spread her love to all who surrounded her. May she now be free of pain and have joined her loved ones in heaven.
Survivors: Her children, Grace Alexander Sorrells and her husband, Tom, of Dallas and Mary Wallis Alexander Butler and William James "Jim" Alexander and his wife, Lori, all of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Betty Sorrells, Mary Frances Sorrells Skellie, Ellen Elizabeth Sorrells Morris and her husband, Mark, Mary Elizabeth Butler Kassels and her husband, Charles, Sarah Alayne Butler Kvale and her husband, Brian, Matthew James Alexander and Leighann Alexander; and eight great-grandchildren; all whom she adored.
