    • French-Indian War Soldier


      - Joined the ENglish Colonial Army with three other brothers


      - Fought in the closing Battle of Quebec under General Wolfe


      - Brother Jacob Stroud was on the staff of General Wolfe


      - Honorably  discharged and returned home with brothers to Pennsylvania.

    • - Moved to PA at age 10.


      - After returning home from the French and Indian War, he and his brothers Samuel and James moved to Suffolk, Virginia.  Two of their sisters joined them


      - Didn't like Virginia and moved int North Carolina after a year or so into Hillsboro (Orange Co.) (c. 1761)


      - All children of John and Sarah were born in North Carolina except the oldest (born in Pennsylvania) and possibly the second (possibly born in Virginia)


      - After the Revolutionary War, moved to Georgia (Burke Co.) with most of his children


      - One year later, the family moved to Hancock County due to conditions not being satisfactory in Burke Co.


      - Moved to Newton Co. after all children were grown and married


      - Parents to ten (10) children


      - Died crossing a shallow stream (fell and drowned)


       


       


       

    • Revolutionary War


      - Enlisted May 15, 1777 and served for two and a half years


      - Re-enlisted on March 12, 1779


      - Served under Major John Baptist Ashe's Company of the First North Carolina Regiment, commanded by Colonel Thomas Clark


      - Nephew John (son of brother James) also served under Sharpe's Company, Ninth North Carolina Regiment


      - Nephew Lott (son of brother James) also served under Major John Baptist Ashe's Company, First North Carolina Regiment, commanded by Colonel Thomas Clark
