Betty Kelly was born on October 6, 1937, in Comanche, Texas to Jesse Alpha Clark Hughes and Vera Lewis Hughes. She passed away at the age of 79 on July 3, 2017 in Midland, Texas. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Kelly; her parents and siblings Franklin, J.D., Burton, Bernice, L.G., Bob, Harold, Jimmy Gale, and Mary Katherine; and her great granddaughter, Reese Daniels. She is survived by her children, Gary Kelly (Wanda), Kristy Thompson (Von), and Michele Daniels, and step-son Bobby Joe Kelly; grandchildren Amy Kelly Contreras, Seth Kelly (Angela), Zac Thompson (Whitney), Jordan Nabarrette (Berto), Nathan Thompson, Nick Daniels (Breitney), Cole Daniels, Jamie Ford (Natalie), Trevor Ford, and Skyla Dennen (Eric); great grandchildren Hannah Kelly, Trey Kelly, Jacob Contreras, Livy Anne Thompson, Audrey Kelly, Wade Thompson, Lena Kelly, Raegan Daniels, Lilly Ford, Sloan Ford, and Connor Dennen. She is also survived by her sister, Martha Jackson (Gene), sisters-in-laws, Audene Hughes and Mary Hughes, many cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Betty can best be described as a woman of God, who consistently lived a life that reflected Christ and who desired and fervently prayed that all her family personally know her Savior. She grew up in a musically talented family and sang along with her siblings on KJBC radio in Midland. She was the most devoted wife, a loving and caring Momma and Mamaw, and a loyal friend. Even though she was way down the line in the birth order of a very large family, she filled the shoes of matriarch. She remembered and acknowledged birthdays and anniversaries and became a prayer warrior on behalf of even her extended family. She opened her home for extended periods of time to loved ones who needed a place to call home. After Jesus, her family was her greatest joy and priority! Betty was a member of First Baptist - Tomball, where she sang in the choir for years, and taught Sunday school in the Senior Department, visited members in the hospital and nursing homes, and prepared meals when there was a need. Betty worked at Gardner Denver, Guaranty Bond State Bank, Klein Funeral Home, Coe Utilities, The Whistle Stop Tea Room, and AES Septic. She was an exemplary employee and believed that a person should earn their pay. She power walked several miles a day up until she became ill in the fall of 2014. That year, Betty was diagnosed with dementia, then Alzheimer’s disease. From the beginning of this journey, she told her 3 children that as long as they were in agreement about a decision, she would trust their leadership, and that is exactly what she did, including the selling of her home, giving up her car and the management of her finances, and lastly, to be admitted into a facility that could provide the safety and care that was needed. This was a tremendous blessing to her family and is just part of the amazing and invaluable legacy that she leaves her loved ones! Today, Betty is enjoying the rewards of her faith in Jesus and will spend eternity singing praises and adoration to the One who is faithful to His Word…”For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 (NIV
