      Etta Ann Smith, age 83, of Odessa, TX, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at Hospice House in Odessa. She was born in Tulia, TX on January 1, 1931 to Lonnie Lawson and Jessie Pearl (Ruland) McCracken. She was a member of Bible Baptist Church, and had retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.

      After her high school graduation in 1948, she visited Ruidoso, NM and fell in love with it. Etta purchased a cabin there and put bird feeders up where she enjoyed watching hummingbirds. She also collected hummingbird figurines. She liked to grow flowers in her greenhouse, and collected State quarters for her grandkids. Etta enjoyed playing the penny slots at casinos, and reading, with one of her favorite authors being Stuart Woods. She was the secretary of the Southwestern Bell Telephone Bowling League.

      Those left to cherish her memory are husband David E. Smith; son Jerry David Smith and wife Cathy of Odessa; daughters Suetta McCorcle and husband Harley of Gonzales, TX, and Sherri Lynn Helmstetler and husband Johnny of Mt. Vernon, TX; 7 grandkids, Tanni Gerwick, Kelli Robillard, JohnDavid Helmstetler, Jacquelyn Parr, Deborah Moravec, Tye Welch, Tanner Wilkerson; great grandchildren Madison Wood, Emily Tidwell, Molly Tidwell, Heather Wiggins, Katelyn Welch, McKayla Welch, Cheyenne Wilkerson, Aubrey Wilkerson, Brylee Wilkerson, Chloe Helmstetler, Baylee Helmstetler, Damian Davilla, Ariel Davilla, Abigayle Helmstetler, Cadence Parr, Ethan Parr, Gavin Gerwick, Gage Gerwick, and Grayson Gerwick; and great great grandchildren Mia Robillard and Emma Wiggins. Mom is sleeping in peace, now.

      No services will be held, and in lieu of flowers, donations in Etta's name may be made to the Hospice House at 903 N. Sam Houston Ave. Odessa, TX, 79761. Arrangements have been entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
