John Hunter Smith was born 22 Jan 1834. During the Civil War, he served with the 56th AL Cavalry, Co. A. He enlisted in March or April 1862 in Montgomery, AL, separated April 1865 at Greensboro, NC. He married Amanda L. 25 Nov 1872 in Autauga Co., AL. He died 25 Nov 1901 and was buried at Rock Hill Cemetery. She applied for Widow's Pension #28632 on 23 Sep 1912 while living at Wills Point. She was 64 years old at the time and had been born in Autauga Co., AL on 26 Oct 1848. Later she was admitted to the Confederate Women's Home in Austin and resided there until she was discharged 01 Aug 1939. She died 21 May 1942 and was buried at Rock Hill Cemetery.
