Sterling Paul Welborn, Jr. of New Albany, Mississippi passed away on February 8, 2017.

Paul is survived by his daughter Suzanne Welborn Jortner of Dallas, TX, and his son Sterling Paul Welborn, III (Amy) of New Albany, MS. In addition, he is survived by his grandchildren Katie Mackenzie Jortner of Washington, D.C., Grant Jortner of Dallas, TX, Drew Welborn, John Wright Welborn, and Laura Ruth Welborn all of New Albany. He is also survived by a sister, Patricia Curtis (David) of Yuma, Arizona along with his extended family in both Tennessee and Alabama.

He was preceded in death by his wife Doris, his brother Joe and his son-in-law Tom Jortner.

Paul was a longtime resident of Dyersburg, TN. He was a loving father and grandfather, which led he and Doris to move to both Birmingham, AL and New Albany, MS to be close to their children and grandchildren.

Paul served in the Air Force during the Korean War.

He was past director of the Dyersburg/Dyer County Chamber of Commerce. He worked for several years in the banking and insurance industries along with co-owning Merle Norman cosmetics in Dyersburg for 35 years with his wife Doris. In his retirement, he served as a bookkeeper and advisor to his son in his business in New Albany.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the New Albany First United Methodist Church Building Fund (PO Box 156, New Albany, MS 38652).

There will be a visitation at the New Albany First United Methodist Church on Saturday February 11 from 10am-11:30 a.m., followed by a memorial service. A private interment will be held at a later date.

LaNell was born in Madera, California on May 30 1940. LaNell moved to Kerman Ca and attended elementary, junior high and high school. LaNell married the love of her life Fred Esparza.

LaNell is survived by her son, Randy Esparza and his wife Marie; five grandchildren and two great grand-children, also by her siblings Rosemary Peer, Dewey Coursey Jr. and Harold Coursey.

LaNell will truly be missed and may she rest peacefully.

Visitation will be held at Stephens & Bean Chapel on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 from 2:00 - 6:00 p.m. followed by a Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6 p.m.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Lucy's Catholic Church in Fowler on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at 10:00 a.m.

RINCON Blanche Exley Kessler, 81, died Monday at Lakeview Manor Retirement Home after a long illness. She was born in Effingham County and was a member of Jerusalem Lutheran Church. Surviving are two daughters, Carolyn K Arnsdorff of Clyo and Joyce Kessler Bragg of Rock Hill , S.C.; a son, Alton Kessler of Springfield, three sisters, Beulah Weitman and Lena Wendelken, both of Springfield, and Wiligenia Carrigg of Rincon; a brother, Waring Exley of Rincon, eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, W. M. Ogle, and three children. The funeral will be held at the Park Street Methodist church Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The interment will be in Hollywood Cemetery.

Departed on September 3, 2016 and resided in Newbern, Tennessee

Richard T. Moore, Sr, 95 of Newbern, TN, passed away peacefully of natural causes on September 3, 2016, at his Brookdale Assisted Living residence in Nashville.

Born September 9, 1920, in Newbern, TN, to Kirby E. and Linnie Lee Moore, Richard graduated from Newbern High School in 1938. After graduating from Vanderbilt University in 1942, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving in the Battle of Okinawa during WWII and attaining the rank of First Lieutenant.

Returning to school after the war, he received an MBA from Harvard University in 1947 and a law degree from Vanderbilt University in 1950.

Richard met and married the love of his life, Cornelia Cage of Gallatin, TN in 1949. He returned to Newbern to practice law and help manage his father’s John Deere dealership.

Richard served in the Tennessee House of Representatives from 1953-1957, and the Tennessee Senate from 1957-1959. He continued serving in the United States Army Reserve until 1978, completing 36 years of service and attaining the rank of Colonel. His interests included veteran’s organizations, the Rotary Club and the Methodist Church.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents: Kirby E. Moore and Linnie Lee Rainey Moore; brother: Kirby E. Moore, Jr; and by his wife of 53 years: Cornelia Cage.

He is survived by his children: Richard T. Moore, Jr (Anne), Kirby C. Moore and Harry E. Moore (Susan); cousins: A.C. Rainey, Jr (Libba) of Nashville and Betty Adams (Bob, deceased) of El Paso, TX; and by 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Bruce D. Hinely - SAVANNAH - Bruce D. Hinely, age 71, of Savannah, passed away on January 13, 2009 at Memorial Health. Bruce was born in Savannah on August 23, 1937 to the late George and Bessie Lee Hinely.


Bruce proudly served his country in the Marines, and worked for many years as a dredge boat operator for Merrit, as well as working for Diamond Construction. He was a former police officer for Port Wentworth and Savannah, and retired from Parent and Child Development of Savannah. Bruce was also a member of Riverside Baptist Church for over 20 years.


Bruce was preceded in death by his wife Sara Hinely.


He is survived by his son Dennis "Chief" Hinely of Savannah, daughter Sabrina Hinely Koneman of Register, grandchildren Whitney Mock of Orlando, John Koneman and Caitlyn Koneman of Register, and Dakota Litchfield of Savannah, former wife Celia Kathleen of Savannah, as well as several nieces and nephews.


Visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Thursday, January 15 at Fairhaven Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at 11am on Friday at the chapel of Fairhaven with Rev. Paul Hindman officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.

Cleone Coursey passed away August, 28, 2009. Viewing will be held. Saturday, August 29, 2009 from 4:00 to 6:00 P. M. at Campbell’s Funeral Home, Spur, TX. In celebration of 94 years of life services will be held August 30, 2009 at 2:00 P. M. at the First Baptist Church, Spur, Tx. Tommy Henderson officiating. Interment will follow in the Spur Cemetery.


Cleone was born in Van Zant County on April 23, 1915 to Rodger Henson and Nina Johnson Henson. She was a loving mom, who taught Sunday School and baby sat. She worked at Spur Laundry and Dry Cleaners, Salty’s Sewing Factory and served as Deputy Justice of the Peace. She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter Wanda Sue.


Cleone is survived by her son Glenn and Nell Martin, Spur, Tx. Three daughters, Clovis and Stan Whitefield of Idalou, Tx., Linda and Lee Lambert of Kalgary, Tx., and Bobbie and Joe Shaffer of Spur, Tx. She is also survived by two sisters Lavern Hudgens of Guthrie, Ok., and Jean Headen of Willspoint, Tx and one brother Mack Henson of California. Also Eight grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

D. Dale "Smokey" Akins, 94, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, left his suffering for a better life Monday, June 4, 2007.


Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Mount Olivet Chapel. Burial: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Olivet Funeral Home.


Smokey was born Oct. 31, 1912, in Oklahoma to Jessie and Eddie Akins. During the Depression, he enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was a retiree of General Dynamics and a longtime member of Victory Baptist Church. He had resided in Haltom City since 1949. He was a many-faceted personality who had a story or a joke for all family gatherings and for anyone who would listen, even during his most recent hospital stay. Smokey was a man of the outdoors who loved boating, fishing, hunting, archery, golf and even played semi-pro baseball in his younger years. He created a parklike area from the property of one of the oldest residences in Haltom City that had gone into disrepair, doing all the physical work himself. He will be greatly missed but not forgotten.


The family wishes to express deep gratitude for the loving care he received at Harris Methodist and Kindred hospitals and for the caregivers at Lifecare Haltom City.


He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and four sisters. He had one sister, Hazel James of Lubbock, presently the lone survivor of a family of 10 children raised during the Depression by their mother.


Survivors: Love of his life, Berneita Smalley Akins with whom he had recently celebrated 70 years of marriage; children, Anna Ruth Collins and husband, Jack, and Bobby Roy Akins and wife, Patricia; grandchildren, Jack Collins II, Brad Collins and wife, Terri, and Ken Collins and wife, Nancy, all residing locally, Andrea Lynn Beattie and husband, Chris, of Canandaigua, N.Y., Tiffany Howley and husband, P.J., of Burleson and Chance Tawater of Alabama; his great-grandchildren, who loved him very much, Megan, Shaney and Verity Collins, Emma Simmons, Victoria and Alex Howley, Landry, Logan and Lainey Collins and Ashton Davis; and a host of friends.

DALLAS — Robert Dewitt Steele, 82, of Dallas died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2014.


Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in First United
Methodist Church in Higgins with the Rev. Blake Durham officiating. Burial will follow in Higgins Cemetery. Arrangements are by Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian.


Robert was born in San Antonio to Dewitt D. and Velma Nicholas Steele. He was a graduate of Corpus Christi High School and served in the Army during the Korean War. On Aug. 14, 1955, he married Nell Beth Sansing in First United
Methodist Church in Higgins.


After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in petroleum engineering from Texas A&M University in 1960, he was employed by Texas Pacific Coal & Oil Co. and Sun Oil Co. A certified professional engineer, he served a number of years as an American Petroleum Institute Standards committee member.


He thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors and took great pleasure in teaching his children how to hunt, fish and appreciate working on the family ranch. After retirement, he enjoyed extensive research of his family’s genealogy.


He was a member of Lake Highlands United Methodist Church and was a master Mason. A devoted father, he served as Boy Scout Troop 415 camping chairman while his two sons were achieving the rank of eagle scout.


He was preceded in death by his parents.


Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Nell; a daughter, Diane Elaine Moulton of Fredericksburg, Va.; two sons, Charles Douglas Steele of Rio Rancho, N.M., and Robert Allen
Steele of Dallas; his
granddaughters, Courtney Lynn and Angela Beth Moulton; his grandsons, Chance Ethan and Parker Allen Steele; two sisters, Dorothy Ellis of Tyler and Marilyn Barnett of Austin; a brother, Charles W. Steele and wife Kathy of Bertram; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Eunice L. Walcher passed away on June 19, 2016 at the age of 79. She was born September 3, 1936 in Bokchito, OK and moved to Camas in 1974. Eunice worked for the paper mill in the beater room before she retired. She enjoyed crafts and her grandchildren were her passion.


She was preceded in death by her son, Gary Carrell; daughters, Kolett Cox and Sherry Britton; Great Grandson, Joseph Carroll; two sisters, and one brother.


Eunice is survived by her son, Bob Carrell of Camas; daughter, Barbara (Vic) Carroll of Wichita, KS; sister, Barbara Stump of Washougal; daughters-in-law, Donna Carrell of Camas and Laurie Carrell of Wichita, KS; 19 grandchildren, 41, great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.


A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 22 at 2pm at the Fern Prairie Cemetery in Camas.

Harold V. Ford, 65, Jim Ned school coach, died Monday, February 17, 1986 at his home east of Ovalo after an apparent heart attack.


Service will be at 3 p.m. today (Thursday) at Lawn Church of Christ.


Burial will be at McBee Cemetery, east of Ovalo, with Jerry Adams and John Bailey officiating, directed by Fry Funeral Home of Tuscola.


Born in Menard County, he graduated from Oplin High School in 1938 and from Abilene Christian University.  He married Lucille Monroe June 6, 1941 in Abilene.  He served in World War II in the U. S. Air Force.  He worked in the oil fields and for Marshall Electric Co. in Lawn.  He was a teacher and coach in the Jim Ned schools for 22 years.  He was an elder and member of the Lawn Church of Christ.


Survivors include his wife, Lucille Monroe Ford; a son, Randy C. Ford and daughter-in-law, Beverly Baker Ford of Torrgon Air Force Base in Madrig, Spain; a daughter, Carolyn (Mrs. Chris) Atkins ov Abilene; and three grandchildren.

J. Mildred Hale Young, passed on to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 6, 2001.
A resident of Los Fresnos for 51 years, she was being lovingly cared for at Golden Palms Nursing Center in Harlingen at the time of her death.
Mildred was born on February 16, 1921 in Wood County, in deep East Texas, she moved to the Valley in 1950. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Los Fresnos where she taught the Beginners Sunday School class for many years and served in the Womens Missionary Union. She worked for Los Fresnos C.I.S.D. as a Home Economics teacher for 39 years. She was an active sponsor of the senior class and the Future Homemakers of America and a longtime member of the Delta Kappa Gamma and Kappa Kappa Iota sororities.
Mrs. Young was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, John M. Young Sr.; her parents, William Jessie Buster and Sara Lucreta Lucy Burnet Hale; a sister, Syble Woody, and a brother, Glen Hale.
She is survived by her children, Wanda Ann Finley and husband Ben of Sanger, Elizabeth Sharon Young of Los Fresnos, John M. Young, Jr. and wife Janie of Gansevoort, NY, David William Young and wife Amanda of Los Fresnos; four grandchildren Gerald Finley and wife Jackie, Scott Finley and wife Shala, Kathryn and James Young; and four great grandchildren.
Local services will be held at First Baptist Church of Los Fresnos on Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at 11 a.m. Another service will be held in Winnsboro, Texas, pending arrangements with Beaty Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Lee Cemetery in Winnsboro. Pastor George Morrison, III will be officiaitng with the deacon body of First Baptist serving as honorary pallbearers.
The family requests that memorial contributions be sent to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund, the Watson Wise Dialysis Center in Harlingen, or to the senders charity of choice.

Longtime Corsicana business owner R.W. "Red" Smith died Sunday, Oct. 3 in Corsicana.


Smith was born in Edgewood, Texas on Aug. 11, 1913 and later graduated from Edgewood High School. He was married to his wife Lou, on April 12, 1940.


The couple moved to Corsicana in 1945, and Smith began operating a Conoco "Service" Station on the Corner of West Seventh Avenue and 15th Street. He later took over managing a station at 1445 West Second Ave., until he retired in 1973.


While operating the service stations, Smith believed in customer service offering full service with a car vacuum, window washing and tire check with complete service.


After retiring in 1973, he often helped his son, Phil Smith, who owns a local pharmacy, by delivering prescriptions and with general help around the store. In 1990, he finally "retired" to spend his time at home with his family.


Smith was very active in the Corsicana community serving on the Administrative Board at the First United Methodist Church and several committees at the church. He was his Sunday school president and a regular usher for early services. He also helped prepare food for the couples' class on Wednesday evenings.


He also served on the Board of Directors at the House of Refuge where he volunteered and helped when needed. According to family members, he called it his "pet project," but volunteered many hours of time.


Smith also was very active in the Kiwanis Club where he was a chartered member.


Survivors include his wife, Lou Smith of Corsicana; one son and daughter-in-law, Phil and Nancy Smith of Corsicana; two grandsons, Chris and Stuart Smith, both of Corsicana; and three sisters, Vonnie Coursey of Pyote, Dorothy Goodwin of Fort Worth and Virginia Hughes of Dallas.

Our loving father and grandfather, David C. Miles, 79, of Waco, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008 after a long struggle with diabetes. Mr. Wesley Dixon will be officiating the memorial services at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, with burial to follow.

David was born in Carbondale, Ill., to the late Herbert Courtney Miles and Augustine Louise (This) Miles. During the Korean War, he served his country in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. DeHaven, one of six destroyers to be "sitting ducks" in the Battle of Inchon.

David believed in education and dedicated his life to learning and teaching. He received his Bachelor of Science at Sul Ross State College in Alpine, Texas, his Master of Arts at Adams State College of Colorado in Alamosa, Colo., and his doctoral studies in Education Administration at Colorado State College in Greeley.

While getting his education, he taught high school in Texas then Colorado. He implemented House Bills 1060 and 1164 in the Handicapped Children's Education Act. He also developed the Wesley White Center in Julesburg, Colo., which was the first county residential school for severely handicapped children in Colorado. He received many professional awards including the Annual Award of the Colorado State Federation of the Council for Exceptional Children-in recognition of Outstanding Contributions and Pioneering Service in Special Education, in 1975. After retiring from the State of Colorado, he became a Commercial Real Estate Broker and owned several small businesses.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Lois L. Miles; and a step-daughter, Linda Tough.

Survivors include his son, David C. Miles Jr. and wife, Sandy, of Green River, Wyo.; daughters, Tammy L. Dobbs and husband, Mike, of Waco, and Terri L. Milligan and husband, Mike, of Santa Clarita, Calif.; step-sons, Jerry and Jim Paulmeno, both of Denver, Colo.; sisters, Betty Lou McChristian, of Austin, and Marilyn Jean Forbes, of Sterling, Colo.; brother, Paul Wayne Miles, of Pinehurst, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

PITTSBURG - Funeral services for Jodie Ralph Harris, 90, of Rockwall will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 9, 2007, at Erman Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Pittsburg with the Rev. Steve Packer officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Erman Smith Funeral Home. Mr. Harris died Tuesday, June 5, 2007, at Lake Pointe Medical Center in Rowlett. He was born July 6, 1916, in Hughes Springs to John Thomas Harris and Lillian Griffin Harris. Mr. Harris was a pharmacist. He served in the U.S. Navy where he served as a pharmacist for four years. He was a Baptist and graduated from the University of Texas in Austin. Survivors include his wife, Jo Taylor Harris of Rockwall; son, Jodie Harris Jr. of Avinger; one step-son, Robert B. Taylor Jr. of Kemha; daughter, Margie Ake of Hughes Springs; two step-daughters, Beth Morgan and Mary Akin, both of Rockwall; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and one brother, Charles Harris of Kansas. Pallbearers will be Matt Aslan, Joseph Aslan, Jonathan Aslan, John Morgan, Rex Akin, Tim Truitt, and John Truitt.

CHEROKEE - The funeral for Robert W. Storment, 86, Route 4, will be today at 2 p.m. at Barton Church of Christ with Jim Mauldin offiiciating.  Burial will be in Harris Chapel Cemetery, Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia, directing.


The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service.


He died Monday, Aug. 8, 1988, at Hellen Keller Memorial Hospital, Sheffield.


He was a native of Mississippi and had lived in Colbert County for 60 years.  He was a member of Barton Church of Christ.


Survivors include sons, Willburn Storment, Savannah, Tenn., Cecil Storment, Ocean Springs, Miss.; brother, Aaron Storment, Cherokee; sister, Margaret Stanfield, Cherokee.


Nephews will serve as bearers.

Sonora resident Kenneth Arnold Smith died Sunday at a Sonora hospital. He was 79.


He was born in Detroit. He loved all sports and was an avid fisherman. He was a longtime member of the River Oaks Men's Golf Club. He worked in the canning departments at both CT Supply in Modesto and Starkist Tuna in Long Beach, where he retired in 1987. He then moved to Sonora with his wife Bobbie.


Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Bobbie Smith of Sonora; daughters, Gail Santana and Kelly Davis of Modesto; stepchildren, Rick Hedges of Morro Bay, Tami Riddel of Ceres and Marty Hedges of Sonora; brothers, Bryant Smith of Oklahoma, Steve Smith of Morgan Hill and Dale Smith of Alabama; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.


A celebration of life will be held at a later date.


In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Diabetes Foundation, 1212 W. Robinhood Drive, Suite 6D, Stockton, CA 95207.

The graveside funeral for Preston B. Fulgham will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Memorial Garden Park Cemetery. The Revs. Prentiss Gordon and Bob Whiteside will officiate and visitation will be today from 5 to 8 p.m. at Welch Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.


Mr. Fulgham, of Starkville, passed away Sunday, August 22, 2010 at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Kosciusko. He was born November 17, 1920 in Maben, the son of Minnie Douglas and Pink Fulgham.


Mr. Fulgham was a charter member of the Sheriff's Boys Ranch and its faithful supporter, so in lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to: Sheriffs Boys and Girls Ranches, P. O. Box 746, Columbus, MS 39703-9983.
As a member of the U.S. Air Force during World War II, he was a decorated pilot of a B-26 bomber and was the recipient of the Purple Heart.


At home, he served 21 years as a member of the Board of Supervisors of Oktibbeha County. As supervisor, he worked tirelessly to establish and build the Oktibbeha County Hospital, the Starkville and Oktibbeha County Public Library, a new court house, a county health clinic and to bring a Mississippi Highway Patrol Station to the county.
He was most proud of his efforts to establish a vocational school in Mayhew, which is now East Mississippi Community College.


He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Starkville, a lifetime member of the American Legion and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the National Association of Uniformed Services.


Mr. Fulgham is survived by his wife of 59 years, Annie Will Wright Fulgham of Starkville; his son, James Brantley (Jan Gousset) Fulgham; his grandson, Christopher Brantley Fulgham, all of Round Rock, Texas and a number of nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Julie Ann Fulgham.

Charlie Daniel Smith of Benson, Ariz., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011 in Tuscon, Ariz., surrounded by family and friends.  Dan was born Sept. 12, 1935 in Jayton, Texas, to Hobbson and Olifay Jones Smith.  Preceded in death by all his siblings and parents, his wife, Alva, in 1976, and youngest daughter, lisa in 1990.


Dan spent most of his life working on different ranches in Colorado and Southern Arizona, one of which was the Empirita Ranch, located outside of Benson.  Dan really loved being a cowboy, and was so proud of the work he did on the ranch.  Dan was an "Extra" in several movies that were made here in Southern Arizona.  "Young Guns" was one of them.  In his younger years, he worked in the oil fields of West Texas.


Dan is survived by his children, Daniel (Cathy) smith of Kingman Ariz., Arlene (Randall) Clark of Lubbock, Texas, Toby Smith of Benson, Stacy Sturguess (Rick) of Benson, also his friend and partner Sandy Bosworth of Pomerene.  He has 15 grandkids and 15 great-grandkids and many nieces and nephews, cousins, and great-nieces and nephews who adored him.  Dan, Dad, Pops, Granpa, Uncle Dan, Uncle Puss, Dan-o and Cuz will truly be missed.


A memorial service will be held at Turquoise Hills CC on Saturday, Nov. 5, att 11 a.m. on the outside patio, and lunch will be served immediately following in the dining room.  For any questions, please call Stacy at 221-1758 or Toby at 586-9405.

Funeral services were held Thursday, November 2, at 10:00 a.m. at the John W. German Funeral Home in Steele for Ms. Era Rainey Gotcher, widow of Ed Gotcher.
Ms. Gotcher was born October 1, 1884, in Dyer County, Tenn., and died October 31 in Chickasawba Hospital in Blytheville at the age of 88.
A member of the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in Steele, she was also a charter member of the New Survey Extension Club.
She leaves two sisters, Ms. Demmie Pattee, Galveston, Tex., and Ms. Myra Haskins, Newbern, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
The Rev. James F. McCrary and the Rev. A.A. Noggle officiated at the service. Interment was in the Woodlawn Cemetery at Hayti with the John W. German Funeral Home of Steele in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Willis Kaiser, Lewis Rogers, Clark Frame, Bert Poteet, Marshall Cameron and Earl Flanagan.

Marlyn Carrell, 81, of Dumas, died Monday, May 5, 2014.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 8, 2014, in First Christian Church in Dumas with Darrell Wait, senior pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Dumas, 500 N. Maddox Ave.

Marlyn was born May 10, 1932, in Cooper to Edward and Estelle Carrell. He married DeAnna Scott on July 18, 1975, in Dumas at First Christian Church.

He retired from Valero after 35 years of service and owned Quick Lube. Marlyn enjoyed children, his grandchildren in particular, playing softball, helping out at his church, traveling and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Wayne and Gene; and a granddaughter, Rebecca Lopez.

Survivors include his wife DeAnna Carrell of Dumas; three sons, Joe Carrell of Nederland, Harold Evanson of Dumas and Wayne Evanson of Spearman; four daughters, Cookie Murrax of Part Arthur, Belinda Swimmer and Lori VanLeer, both of Dumas and Karla Carrell of Amarillo; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be made to First Christian Church, Scholarship Fund, 423 S Maddox Ave, Dumas, TX 79029.

Mr. Gerald Thomas Turner, 89, of Nashville, formerly of Lewisburg, died Thursday, April 17, 2008, at his residence.

Mr. Turner was a veteran of World War II, and was retired from Vought Industries after 35 years. He was a charter member of Dalewood United Methodist Church, Weakley Fellowship Sunday School class.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Reba Adair Turner; wife of 8 years, Octa Vaughn Turner; and wife of 4 years, Roselle Peal Turner.

He is survived by his daughters, Nancy (Bob) Sullins of Brentwood and Jane (Monty) Williams of Memphis; sister, Wylene (Briggs) Nix; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Turner was buried at Woodlawn Memorial Park on Saturday, April 19. A memorial service was conducted at Dalewood United Methodist Church on Sunday, April 20.

Memorial donations may be made to the Dalewood United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
