Juanita "Nita" Marie Johnson passed away from this life into the next on July 15, 2012. She was 83 years of age, but lived her life expecting many more opportunities to give to those she met. Visitation for family and friends will be 6 till 8 PM on Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Graveside funeral service will be 10:00 AM, July 18, 2012, at Elmwood Memorial Park's Mausoleum Garden.

She was born on August 11, 1928, in Kansas City, Missouri to W.D. and Velma White Smith. She moved with her family to Lamesa, Texas where she met Mary E. Smith, who would become a lifelong friend until Mary passed in 1992.

After an amazing short courtship she married Elmo E. White, a native of Coahoma, Texas. To this union three children were born; Ronald E. White, Randy J. White, and Vicki White. With Elmo being in the U.S. Air Force, they all got to see much of God's creation while being stationed in Morocco, Africa and the Azore Islands off the Portugal Coast. Nita was a good homemaker, raising her children well and being involved in every school or sport challenge they tried to master.

The family returned to Dyess AFB, in Abilene, for the remaining of Elmo's military service, with her children going to Wylie schools, and Nita attending Wylie Baptist Church. Elmo died in 1968 and some years later Nita was joined in marriage with James Merl Johnson, of Oplin, Texas. Nita and Merl spent many years traveling the U.S. where Merl was a superintendent for Fish Engineers, making the work crew his extended family. Nita entertained and fed large groups of working men and their families. After Merl was medically unable to work they returned to Abilene to live.

Nita and her husband Elmo bowled with great success in many bowling leagues in Abilene, in the 1950's and 1960's. Her friends Lila Robertson, Lou Russel, and Dickey Haggard shared many laughs at the lanes and each other's homes.

Nita was a champion bingo player having showed her skills in the N.C.O. clubs while in the military and greatly cherished her bingo friends at the V.F.W. post, and other bingo halls around town. She loved to win so that she might share her blessing with those around her.

Nita became the "cookie lady" for Albertson's grocery store on Buffalo Gap, where she eagerly and lovingly made sure you tried a sample of whatever delight Pam and her helpers had cooked that day. She and the family wish to thank all of the employees and managers for being so caring for her, as she loved greeting every customer with a smile and a sweet treat.

She was preceded in death by her husband's Elmo E. White and James M. Johnson, and her loving brother, James R. Smith.

Mary Jean Harvey Bragg, 89, died of congestive heart failure on Nov 29, 2016 in Navarre, FL, where her youngest daughter, Kim, cared for her during her final two years with dementia. Her family and friends miss her dearly, but we have many wonderful memories of her to keep her present in our lives. Jean was born Feb 11, 1927 in Jacksonville, FL to the late Moses Cullen Harvey and Ruby Dickerson Harvey. Her brother, Merrill Cullen Harvey, also preceded her in death. Jean graduated from Robert E Lee High School in Jacksonville and attended Stetson University in DeLand, FL, where she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. She dropped out of college early to support her former husband, the late Jackson B Bragg, DO, while he completed college and graduate school at Stetson and medical school in Kirksville, MO. In 1955 they moved to Daytona Beach and lived with his parents for a year, while he established his medical practice and co-founded Daytona General Hospital in Holly Hill, which later became Florida Health Care. They settled in Ormond Beach, where they raised their four children, enjoying tennis and golf at the Oceanside Country Club, water skiing on the Intracoastal Waterway, and flying to the Bahamas for vacations. Both were licensed pilots, and Jean enjoyed flying around the country with other female pilots in Powder Puff Derby competitions. After her divorce Jean started a career in insurance and financial planning. She earned the designations of Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) in 1974 and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) in 1985, and she was a registered representative at the National Association of Securities Dealers. She was self-employed at Bragg Insurance Agency on E. Granada Ave., selling life and health insurance and mutual funds, and was an associate of Brown & Brown, Inc. Later she was head of the Life Reinsurance Department at Halifax Reinsurance Corp, a life reinsurance consultant for Agrippina in Cologne, Germany, an employee of Mullin & Co., Inc, and a registered representative of Travelers Equities Sales, Inc., Orlando, FL. She was a member of the Daytona Beach Chamber of Commerce, the Volusia County Estate Planning Council, the National Association of Life Underwriters, and served as vice-president of the Daytona Beach CLU chapter. She served on the Board of Directors of the Daytona Beach Domestic Abuse Council and on the Daytona Beach Regional Airport Advisory Board for 10 years. She was a member of the League of Women Voters of Volusia County and a die-hard Democrat active in local and national politics. In addition to her vibrant personality and intelligence Jean was admired for dressing sharply, wearing interesting hats, and passionately pursuing life. She loved art, music, theater, dinners, dancing, and travel; she shared those loves with her children, and Sandra forever will be grateful for the opportunities she had to experience so much with her mother. For many years Jean and her close friends regularly attended art shows, concerts, and plays and met at the Moose Club to dine and dance. She took trips to Africa, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Canada, China, Egypt, Germany, Greece, Italy, New Zealand, Spain, Turkey, and many other destinations, often going with friends on group tours with the Daytona Beach Ski and Travel Club. In her youth Jean was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Jacksonville, but as an adult she became a Methodist and eventually a longtime parishioner at St. James Episcopal Church in Ormond Beach. At her death she was a member of Unity Church of Daytona Beach. Jean is survived by her four children, Sandra Bragg of Atlanta, GA, Gail Bragg of New Orleans, LA, Charles (Chuck/CB) Bragg and wife Jill of Port Orange, FL, and Kim Bellamy Gibson of Navarre, FL; seven grandchildren, Anna, Michael, Meghan, Paige, Morgan, Taylor, and Joy; and three great-grandchildren, Dylan, Jayden, and Cullen. Special thanks go to Kim's partner, Richard West, for providing such good care for Jean in her final years. She died peacefully at Kim's home, surrounded by family and friends. Oak Lawn Funeral Home, Pensacola FL, handled the cremation, and on Dec. 27, 2016, her ashes were interred at Volusia Memorial Park, 550 N. Nova Rd., Ormond Beach, FL. -

Betty Kelly was born on October 6, 1937, in Comanche, Texas to Jesse Alpha Clark Hughes and Vera Lewis Hughes.  She passed away at the age of 79 on July 3, 2017 in Midland, Texas.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Kelly; her parents and siblings Franklin, J.D., Burton, Bernice, L.G., Bob, Harold, Jimmy Gale, and Mary Katherine; and her great granddaughter, Reese Daniels.  She is survived by her children, Gary Kelly (Wanda), Kristy Thompson (Von), and Michele Daniels, and step-son Bobby Joe Kelly; grandchildren Amy Kelly Contreras, Seth Kelly (Angela), Zac Thompson (Whitney), Jordan Nabarrette (Berto), Nathan Thompson, Nick Daniels (Breitney), Cole Daniels, Jamie Ford (Natalie), Trevor Ford, and Skyla Dennen (Eric);  great grandchildren Hannah Kelly, Trey Kelly, Jacob Contreras, Livy Anne Thompson, Audrey Kelly, Wade Thompson, Lena Kelly, Raegan Daniels, Lilly Ford, Sloan Ford, and Connor Dennen.  She is also survived by her sister, Martha Jackson (Gene), sisters-in-laws, Audene Hughes and Mary Hughes, many cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Betty can best be described as a woman of God, who consistently lived a life that reflected Christ and who desired and fervently prayed that all her family personally know her Savior.  She grew up in a musically talented family and sang along with her siblings on KJBC radio in Midland.  She was the most devoted wife, a loving and caring Momma and Mamaw, and a loyal friend.  Even though she was way down the line in the birth order of a very large family, she filled the shoes of matriarch.  She remembered and acknowledged birthdays and anniversaries and became a prayer warrior on behalf of even her extended family.  She opened her home for extended periods of time to loved ones who needed a place to call home.   After Jesus, her family was her greatest joy and priority!  Betty was a member of First Baptist - Tomball, where she sang in the choir for years, and taught Sunday school in the Senior Department, visited members in the hospital and nursing homes, and prepared meals when there was a need.

Betty worked at Gardner Denver, Guaranty Bond State Bank, Klein Funeral Home, Coe Utilities, The Whistle Stop Tea Room, and AES Septic.  She was an exemplary employee and believed that a person should earn their pay.  She power walked several miles a day up until she became ill in the fall of 2014.  That year, Betty was diagnosed with dementia, then Alzheimer’s disease.  From the beginning of this journey, she told her 3 children that as long as they were in agreement about a decision, she would trust their leadership, and that is exactly what she did, including the selling of her home, giving up her car and the management of her finances, and lastly, to be admitted into a facility that could provide the safety and care that was needed.  This was a tremendous blessing to her family and is just part of the amazing and invaluable legacy that she leaves her loved ones!  Today, Betty is enjoying the rewards of her faith in Jesus and will spend eternity singing praises and adoration to the One who is faithful to His Word…”For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”  John 3:16 (NIV
